The latest acotar books update is that Sarah J. Maas has revealed the titles and covers for Books 6 and 7 in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. A Court of Splintered Harmony is scheduled for Oct. 27, 2026, followed by A Court of Forgotten Melody on Jan. 12, 2027, according to TODAY.

Sarah J. Maas reveals A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody

The sixth book is titled A Court of Splintered Harmony. Its cover identifies it as “The Valkyrie Cycle: Movement I,” and its reported release date is Oct. 27, 2026.

The seventh book is titled A Court of Forgotten Melody. Its cover labels it “The Valkyrie Cycle: Movements II & III,” with a reported release date of Jan. 12, 2027. The two titles and covers were revealed through back-to-back Instagram posts on Aug. 17, alongside promotional digital billboards in Los Angeles, Denver and New York City, Variety reported.

Maas paired the first announcement with the line, “What was broken will be remade,” and the second with, “What was lost will be reclaimed.” The descriptions released for the books indicate that they are designed as connected parts of one larger story rather than unrelated installments. USA TODAY reported that Maas described the project as a very large story whose arcs are not wrapped up in the same way as a trilogy.

What the two new books are about

The description for A Court of Splintered Harmony centres on the return of Koschei the Deathless, who has been bound to a mountain lake for millennia. His threat is spreading across the Fae territories, while allies seek to reclaim the human lands, according to TODAY’s report.

The Night Court is expected to confront that threat while Prythian continues to recover from the Hybern War. The book’s description says the effort to unite the territory is complicated by betrayals, newly revealed truths and divisions among those who rule and protect the Night Court.

The second book’s description says that traditional alliances are collapsing and that diplomacy may not be enough to restore them. Koschei’s threat continues, while bonds are tested, power shifts and old enemies return. It also says the Night Court’s Inner Circle disperses in search of an advantage against Koschei and his allies.

The available descriptions establish the broad conflict, but they do not provide a complete account of the books’ protagonists, points of view or individual story arcs. The reports also do not establish whether the January 2027 date applies identically to every market or edition.

Where the new books fit in the series

The series currently has five published titles:

  1. A Court of Thorns and Roses
  2. A Court of Mist and Fury
  3. A Court of Wings and Ruin
  4. A Court of Frost and Starlight
  5. A Court of Silver Flames

The two newly announced novels follow A Court of Silver Flames, which was released in February 2021, USA TODAY reported. The same report says both forthcoming books are available for preorder, although the cited retailer information is specific to Target and does not confirm availability or pricing for Canadian readers.

For now, the latest reported status is that the titles and covers have been revealed, with A Court of Splintered Harmony scheduled first on Oct. 27, 2026, and A Court of Forgotten Melody scheduled to follow on Jan. 12, 2027.
