The NRL has approved South Sydney carrying one additional player in its squad and using one additional interchange for these matches. The arrangement allows Arrow to dress in Rabbitohs playing kit, lead the team onto the field, start the match and become the first interchange shortly after the opening whistle. He will not take part in play after leaving the field. South Sydney Rabbitohs

Why the milestone matters
Arrow has been unable to complete his playing career after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease and medically retiring earlier this year. Before the approved appearances, the Rabbitohs said he had played 98 NRL matches for South Sydney since joining the club for the 2021 season. South Sydney Rabbitohs
The two matches will take his South Sydney tally to 100. The Rabbitohs said that would make him the 67th player to reach 100 first-grade games for the club; its account says 66 players had previously reached the mark in South Sydney’s history. South Sydney Rabbitohs
The club also said Arrow had played 178 NRL matches across his career before the two approved games. His previous clubs were the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans, before his move to South Sydney. South Sydney Rabbitohs
What is confirmed, and what is not
The NRL, the Rugby League Players Association, South Sydney’s Club Consultation Committee and the two opposing clubs are reported to have approved the proposal. South Sydney chief executive Blake Solly said the initiative was intended to recognise Arrow’s contribution and raise awareness and funds connected with his fight with motor neurone disease. 7NEWS
The confirmed arrangement concerns Arrow’s participation at the start of each match, rather than a return to regular game action. The available reporting does not establish whether he will take part in any further matches after the two scheduled appearances. As of the latest reports, his 100-game South Sydney milestone is approved but the two matches have yet to be played.
