dj moore is being recommended as a Week 2 fantasy football starter after a strong debut with the Buffalo Bills. He caught five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown against Houston, and the available fantasy analysis points to another favorable matchup against the Detroit Lions.

DJ Moore’s Bills debut made him a recommended Week 2 start

Moore’s first game with Buffalo produced eight targets, five receptions, 100 receiving yards and one touchdown, according to Sports Illustrated’s Week 2 start/sit analysis. The performance made him the No. 9 wide receiver in weekly PPR fantasy scoring and marked his first game with at least 100 receiving yards since Week 12 of the 2024 season.

His usage was also prominent within the Bills’ passing game. FantasyPros’ Week 2 Primer reported that Moore led Buffalo with a 24.1% target share and a 33.3% first-read share in Week 1. He also received three deep targets, although he did not receive a red-zone or end-zone target in that game.

Those numbers support the view that Moore was more than a one-play or low-volume contributor in his Buffalo debut. Sports Illustrated described the performance as evidence that the Bills could be using him as a workhorse No. 1 receiver, while also cautioning that it is still early to draw firm conclusions about his role.

Why the matchup with Detroit is attractive

Moore’s Week 2 opponent is the Lions, whose defense struggled against the pass in its opener. Detroit allowed 410 passing yards to New Orleans in Week 1, the most in the NFL, and Saints receiver Chris Olave finished with 10 receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown, according to Sports Illustrated.

FantasyPros also identified Detroit as a favorable matchup for perimeter wide receivers. The Lions allowed the 11th-most fantasy points per target and the seventh-most yards per target to perimeter receivers in Week 1, the publication reported.

That matchup is part of why Sports Illustrated ranked Moore ahead of Detroit receiver Jameson Williams for Week 2 and called Moore a must-start option. Williams had four receptions for 45 yards on nine targets in the Lions’ high-scoring opener, but the analysis viewed Buffalo as a more difficult matchup for him.

The main uncertainty is whether the role continues

The evidence supports Moore as a high-priority fantasy start for the Bills-Lions matchup, but it does not establish that he will maintain the same target share or scoring pace throughout the season. His 100-yard performance came in his first game with Buffalo, and Sports Illustrated explicitly noted that it was too early to overreact to one week.

The latest fantasy recommendations nevertheless align: Moore is coming off a top-10 PPR performance, led Buffalo in several receiving-usage measures, and faces a Detroit defense that gave up substantial production through the air in Week 1. Whether that usage becomes a sustained feature of the Bills’ offense remains unresolved, but he is the recommended start for Week 2 in the available analysis.
