Liverpool and PSG continue talks over Bradley Barcola

Liverpool held further discussions with PSG on Tuesday, with optimism that an agreement could still be reached before the transfer deadline. Sky Sports reported that the two clubs have had a valuation gap throughout the summer, with PSG seeking around £145 million for the France international. Sky Sports

A separate report said Liverpool representatives were travelling to Paris for a meeting intended to establish whether a deal was possible, rather than simply submitting a final bid. That account suggested the transfer was not yet at the stage where Liverpool were ready to make the reported £120 million offer. Liverpool Offside

The reports therefore point to active negotiations rather than a completed agreement. There is optimism around the talks, but available reporting does not establish that Liverpool have agreed a final fee with PSG.

The reported asking price has moved during the summer

TEAMtalk reported that PSG initially valued Barcola at approximately €170 million, or about £145 million, before lowering the figure to around €146 million, or £125 million. It then said the French club could be prepared to accept approximately €140 million, equivalent to about £120 million. TEAMtalk

That £120 million figure is also the fee reported by Liverpool Offside as one that both clubs could potentially accept. However, Sky Sports continued to describe PSG’s position as a demand of around £145 million, showing that the precise valuation has not been consistently reported.

TEAMtalk also reported that Liverpool have an agreement in principle with Barcola and that the player wants to move to Anfield. Those claims have not been presented in the Sky Sports report, which focuses on negotiations between the clubs and the remaining gap in valuation.

Liverpool’s other wide-player discussions

Sky Sports reported that Liverpool’s priority throughout the transfer window has been to strengthen in wide areas. The club has also explored a move for PSG team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye, who operates from the right wing.

TEAMtalk reported that Liverpool had moved away from a deal for Mbaye because PSG’s valuation of about £60 million was above the Premier League club’s assessment. It also said Liverpool were still considering Yankuba Minteh after Brighton rejected two offers, the latest worth around £60 million. Those discussions are separate from the Barcola negotiations.

Sky Sports added that Liverpool do not want to sell Cody Gakpo while Tottenham and Manchester City are interested, and that the club would probably need to sign two wingers before considering his departure.

What must happen next

Liverpool and PSG still need to settle the transfer fee and complete the remaining stages of the deal. The latest reporting supports continued talks and some optimism, but Barcola remains a PSG player and the move to Liverpool is not confirmed.
